Senator David Blount
David Blount represents District 29 (Hinds County including parts of Jackson, Byram, and Terry) in the Mississippi Senate. He is an 8th generation Mississippian who grew up in Hinds County.
David was elected to the State Senate in 2007. He was re-elected in 2011 and again in 2015 with 79 percent of the vote. He serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus.
David's top priority is strengthening public education in Mississippi, and he serves on the Senate Education Committee. He serves as Chairman of the Senate Public Property Committee, which oversees the construction and management of 6,300 buildings owned by the people of Mississippi. Many of these buildings are located on the campuses of the state's universities and community colleges.
Senator Blount is Vice Chairman of the Senate Elections Committee, where he is an advocate for increasing voter participation and helped pass campaign finance reform. He is the lead author of the Mississippi Armed Forces Absentee Voting Act.
David represents Mississippi on the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) executive committee. NCSL is the largest organization of state legislators in the country.
