David Blount represents
District 29 (Hinds County including Byram, Terry, and parts of
Jackson and Clinton) in the Mississippi Senate.
David took office in January 2008. Before being elected, he
served thirteen years at the Secretary of State's Office, most
recently as a top aide to former Secretary of State Eric Clark.
He is an 8th generation Mississippian who grew up in Hinds
County.
David's top priorities are strengthening public education in
Mississippi and making our neighborhoods safer by fighting
crime. He is also the lead author of the Mississippi Armed
Forces Absentee Voting Act, signed into law by Gov. Haley
Barbour in 2010 and the "Blue Alert" law passed in 2011 to
protect law enforcement officers injured in the line of
duty.
Sheriff Malcolm McMillin has said about David's work in the
Legislature: "Senator Blount has done more for law
enforcement than any first-term legislator I have ever
seen."
Senator Blount is among the leading voices in the Senate for
our schools. He has a 100% voting record with The
Parents' Campaign, Mississippi's leading parent
organization that started in Clinton and now promotes quality
public education across Mississippi.
Dr. Tommye C. Henderson (Former Superintendent - Clinton Public
Schools; Assistant Professor - Mississippi College) has said:
"Senator David Blount has shown himself to be a man of
integrity, a staunch supporter of quality education, and an
advocate for students and for educators. He can be counted on
to support legislation which will strengthen educational
programs and which will positively affect students and
teachers."
