David Blount represents District 29 (Hinds County including Byram, Terry, and parts of Jackson and Clinton) in the Mississippi Senate. He is an 8th generation Mississippian who grew up in Hinds County.

David was elected to the State Senate in 2007. He was re-elected in 2011 with 69 percent of the vote.

David's top priority is strengthening public education in Mississippi. He serves on the Senate Education Committee and has a 100% voting record with The Parents' Campaign, Mississippi's leading parent organization promoting quality public education across Mississippi.

He serves as Chairman of the Senate Public Property Committee, which oversees the construction and management of 6,300 buildings owned by the people of Mississippi.

He is also the lead author of the Mississippi Armed Forces Absentee Voting Act, signed into law by Gov. Haley Barbour in 2010 and the "Blue Alert" law passed in 2011 to protect law enforcement officers injured in the line of duty.
