David Blount represents District 29 (Hinds County including Byram, Terry, and parts of Jackson and Clinton) in the Mississippi Senate. He is an 8th generation Mississippian who grew up in Hinds County.

David was elected to the State Senate in 2007. He was re-elected in 2011 with 69 percent of the vote. He is running for re-election in 2015.

David's top priority is strengthening public education in Mississippi. He serves as Chairman of the Senate Public Property Committee, which oversees the construction and management of 6,300 buildings owned by the people of Mississippi. Many of these buildings are located on the campuses of the state's universities and community colleges.

Senator Blount is among the leading voices in the Senate for our schools. He serves on the Senate Education Committee and is a strong supporter of The Parents' Campaign, Mississippi's leading parent organization promoting quality public education across Mississippi.

He is also the lead author of the Mississippi Armed Forces Absentee Voting Act, signed into law by Gov. Haley Barbour in 2010. He serves on the Elections & Redistricting Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures.
